Green Fairies - 2004 Summer California and Michigan

homecoming.jpg

This story starts in September of 2003, when Freya's daddy returned from his trip to Europe. That summer Freya missed him a lot, and so when he returned, it
was a real homecoming. He brought a few wonderful presents, a dress from Disney store, Beauty and the Beast pictured here. So in the following May, when
Freya was 4 and a half, it was Freya's turn to go on vacation, and she gave her daddy a big hug, and they said they would miss each other. Now it was Freya's
turn to have big adventures.

Freya started ballet lessons with her friend Livian in the spring of 2003. This photo was taken on the second to the last lesson, and Freya was to miss the recital because she was leaving before May 28 for California. Freya was excited to spend ten days with Grandma Sue in visiting Aunt Marenka in Oakland. Marenka had two beautiful cats, Grizzly Bear and Kodiak. They planned to read a lot of stories, go to the beach and generally have fun.

On the day of departure, George and Mommy picked up Baby Freya and Grandma Suzy and sped off to California. George drove to the Phoenix airport and flew to Minnesota. "In an airplane, I know", Freya said.
Mommy drove the long desert road to California. It was exciting to pass the border of Arizona, and see the green fields in California.

Freya remembers this part: "I was sleeping in the hotel. And I woke up in the middle of the night and I asked my mommy for water over and over and over again. My mommy woke up and
she said "Huh?" She didn't give me the water, she fell back to sleep." "So, I had to get up and get the water all by myself."

"After telling this Freya said: "I'm gonna give that story to my mom!" Grandma Suzy writes this down, knowing that it will provide some laughs down the road.

After many hours we arrived in Santa Barbara and went to the studio of the wonderful California landscape painter Ray Strong. He was a very old man, nice looking, with white hair and almost a hundred years old." Freya said she liked him. Ray gave Freya a small sculpture of a laughing cow with a paint brush".

We went to the San Francisco Zoo. Freya wanted to go and see the Kangaroos, and it was a long walk. On the way we saw bears, elephants, and a large snake from the rainforest exhibit.
We got to the lion's cage at feeding time, remember the big tiger? There was very loud roaring. That was what all the people wanted to see and hear, the roaring for the food.

Freya wanted to walk up on the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked up to the first tower, and spent a long time looking down at the surfers in the water under the bridge. We saw the boats that Grandpa Eddie used to operate. Freya said, "and I never been with Grandpa Eddie."

That day became very windy, too windy to go out of the car at the beach. We visited Baker's Beach and also Ocean Beach, but we couldn't play near the water.

We drove to Bolinas one day, and saw Ray's art exhibit. There we went onto the beach and played near the water.

Another day Marenka took us to Fairyland in Oakland, and here in the sunshine we had some fun at the merry go round. Freya was too scared to put her head in the Lion's mouth exhibit. But she didn't mind being one of the three little pigs.

In the middle of the summer, Freya spent time with Grandma Ann, Grandpa Glenn, Aunties Greta and Laura and Uncle Jeff. This is what Freya said: "We bought new puppies." (After Mommy Krista read this she made some corrections: the puppies were maggie and sammy and sammy is still with lola and zoe, but maggie has a new home.)
There was a wedding and some of the family is pictured here. Freya also said: "Mommy and Melissa drove me to New Jersey to see Levi and Jacob and Lisa and Jared."
The photo we chose from the collection at Levi's house is called 'Tea Party'. Pictured here also is one of Lisa's quiltings.
